Title: Installing COMSOL on macOS Sierra
Platform: Macintosh
Versions: 5.2, 5.2a
Categories: Installation
Keywords: Installation, Sierra

Problem Description

I am trying to install COMSOL Multiphysics on my Mac running macOS Sierra (version 10.12), but the Setup program does not start.

Solution

This has been fixed in COMSOL 5.2a update 2. Please use the latest installer available from www.comsol.com/product-download.

For COMSOL 5.2a Update 1 (and older versions of COMSOL), please use the following procedure to workaround this issue:

  1. Download the COMSOL installation disk image (COMSOL52a_mac.dmg) or the COMSOL installation DVD image (COMSOL52a_dvd.iso) from the Product download page.
  2. Open the downloaded file.
  3. Start a terminal window.
  4. Drag the 'setup' script file from the installer image and drop it in the terminal.
  5. Press Enter in the terminal.
