If you are looking for an intensive introduction to using COMSOL Multiphysics for acoustics simulations, this is the course for you. During the 2-day COMSOL Multiphysics Acoustics Intensive Training course, you will develop a strong foundation for your future acoustics and multiphysics modeling work. We start at an introductory level, leading students through the essential steps needed in all analyses (geometry creation, interactive meshing techniques, model setup, coupling physics, postprocessing, etc.) Then, we focus solely on acoustics simulations, the modeling of pressure waves in fluids and vibrations of solids, as well as how to couple these physics.

To teach this course, we use a combination of guided hands-on training, theoretical and practical lecture, and self-guided hands-on training. The goal is to immerse you in all of the main aspects of using COMSOL Multiphysics and the Acoustics Module, so that you feel comfortable working with the software. You will leave the course feeling confident that you are correctly solving your acoustics problems with COMSOL Multiphysics.

Day 1, 9:00am - 5:00pm

The course begins with a guided introduction to the graphical user interface (GUI) of the software, so that you learn the key steps in the modeling workflow. In particular, we will walk you through the following:

  • Using and understanding the key features of the COMSOL Multiphysics architecture
  • Importing and creating a geometry for analysis
  • Best practices for meshing your geometry

After introducing the software and usage, the course will transition over to focusing solely on acoustics. The following topics will be covered:

  • Meshing consideration for wave problems
  • Overview of performing acoustics analyses in COMSOL Multiphysics

Day 2, 9:00am - 5:00pm

The second day builds upon the training from the previous day with a focus on the modeling of acoustics and vibration phenomena. You will learn how to use the appropriate interfaces and boundary conditions to model acoustic wave generation, propagation, reflection, transmission, scattering, and absorption in different types of media, including fluid, solid, porous, piezoelectric devices, and pipe systems.

Suggested Background

This course assumes some familiarity with the basic concepts of acoustics and structural dynamics. No previous experience with COMSOL Multiphysics is required.
