COMSOL Multiphysics Wins 2014 Product of the Year Award

March 18, 2015

COMSOL Multiphysics was awarded the 2014 NASA Tech Briefs‘ Readers’ Choice Product of the Year, just a month after winning NASA Tech Briefs‘ Product of the Month in December 2014. Learn more about this award and how it reflects the influence of COMSOL Multiphysics in the future of design engineering.

A Readers’ Choice Award: NASA Tech Briefs’ 2014 Product of the Year

With a circulation of more than 190,000, NASA Tech Briefs has become an important resource in the global design community. This publication, a venture between NASA and Tech Briefs Media Group, reports on new technologies developed by NASA as well as innovations from other industry partners.

Throughout the year, the NASA Tech Briefs editorial staff selects twelve Product of the Month winners based on their impact within the world of design engineering. In December 2014, COMSOL Multiphysics version 5.0 was named the Product of the Month. That same month, readers were asked to choose from the twelve products that had won over the course of 2014 and vote for the one that they found most innovative and influential.

Readers cast their votes, selecting COMSOL Multiphysics as one of the three winners of the 2014 NASA Tech Briefs‘ Product of the Year. This is the fourth time that COMSOL Multiphysics has received this award, with earlier versions of the software recognized in 2000, 2005, and 2010.

Widening the Scope of Simulation

The Product of the Year award comes just a few months after the release of COMSOL Multiphysics 5.0, which included three new products — the Ray Optics Module, the Design Module, and LiveLink™ for Revit® — as well as enhanced features and functionality for existing products.

The release of the Application Builder marked an especially important milestone in the simulation community by bringing simulation capabilities to a more widespread audience. With the Application Builder, you can create customized applications based upon COMSOL Multiphysics models. COMSOL Server™ can then be used to share these user-friendly applications with colleagues and customers, who can run their own simulations via the apps. In addition to saving time and optimizing processes, this tool allows people of varying expertise to access simulations and see how different parameters affect a product’s overall design.

“Version 5.0 is our biggest release ever,” said Bjorn Sjodin, our VP of Product Management. “With the Application Builder and COMSOL Server™, we are set up to change the way simulations are done forever. But this award is not just about the software itself. We would never have won this award if it wasn’t for the great relationship with our customers through forums like technical support and COMSOL Conferences. Nothing can replace interacting with your customers.”

The Award Presentation

Last Friday on March 13th, Linda Bell and Ed Marecki of NASA Tech Briefs visited our office in Burlington, MA to present us with the award. Bjorn Sjodin accepted the plaque on behalf of COMSOL.

Thank you to both readers and staff of NASA Tech Briefs for honoring COMSOL Multiphysics version 5.0!
