RF Introductory Tutorial: Step by Step Modeling of a Periodic Structure
This is an introductory tutorial that shows how to model periodic structures using the COMSOL RF Module.
Periodic structures such as gratings and etalons are widely used in optoelectronics and as filters. Periodic metamaterial structures are also finding applications in radar and optical cloaking.
This examples demonstrates the techniques needed to build a model of a periodic structure. A classic benchmark problem of s- and p-polarized light interacting with a dielectric slab is studied. Reflection and transmission is computed and shown to agree with analytic results.
The approach presented in this model is appropriate for COMSOL 3.5a. Users of COMSOL 4.2 and above should use the approach shown in the Plasmonic Wire Grating Example.
